Home Ownership Rate is defined as the percentage of all non-vacant housing units that are owner-occupied (not rented). A higher home ownership rate often correlates with stable communities, economic growth, and personal wealth accumulation, fostering a sense of stability and investment in neighborhoods.

This indicator displays the percentage of all non-vacant housing units that are owner-occupied (not rented) further subdivided by their Race/Ethnicity. A higher home ownership rate often correlates with stable communities, economic growth, and personal wealth accumulation, fostering a sense of stability and investment in neighborhoods.

  • The United States Census Bureau provides the data for the total number of housing units that are not vacant and are occupied by owners for the Counties and Localities in our 8-county region. The data spans from 2010 to 2022.

    We acknowledge that the racial/ethnic categories may not feel like a direct representation of your racial/ethnic identity and for some may not feel empowering. As these data are from Census and government-based datasets, we are limited to their categories. We hope that collectively we will work toward more expansive and inclusive terminology.

Wayne County has the highest home ownership rate in the 8-county region at 83.2% in 2022.

In 2022, Asian home units in Seneca County and Black/African American home units in Yates County had a home ownership rate of 100%.

Hispanic/Latino

Within the 8-county region, the proportion of Hispanic/Latino housing units occupied by owners stands at 49.6%, marking the lowest rate among all racial groups in 2022.
