Monroe County is the most populated county in our 8-county region, with 754,068 residents in the year 2023, 26% of which are from the City of Rochester (the largest city in the region).

Over 4000 people moved out of the 8-county region in the year 2023.

Ontario County is the only county with an increase in population from 2022 to 2023.

The population in Churchville has grown the fastest since 2022 at a 5% increase in 2023.

The total population was negative in 2020 and 2021 in all of the counties except Ontario, until in 2022 when Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, and Wayne saw between 1.4% (Wayne) and 2.1% (Ontario) population increases.

In 2023, almost 19% of the population in the 8-county region was aged 65 and above, which is 3.9k more people than 2022.

In the year 2023, the population of individuals aged 85 and above in the Village of Newark increased by 37%, the biggest increase in all localities in the 8-county region.

The working-class age group of 25 to 64-year-olds in the suburbs dropped by 0.74% in 2023.

In 2023, the City of Rochester boasted the highest population of individuals aged 25 and under, surpassing 70,000 people.

White Population Decline

As of 2023, Monroe County has the highest proportion of Black residents, comprising over 13.8% of its population, a decrease of 1% in the last year.

The Hispanic population in the City of Rochester has increased slightly since 2016.

Per the third visualization, the population of white residents in localities across our region is in decline.

Yates County has the highest proportion of White residents among the counties in our region, standing at 94%. The next highest is Livingston County at 88.9%.
